The Technology of Robotic Surgery
For the past two decades, surgery was a sophisticated procedure that medical professionals performed using only conventional tools. Although this method was perfectly all right, it can leave unsightly scars that can make other people shy about their appearance. However, with the advancements in technology and continuous research done by professionals, robotic surgery was then introduced to the modern healthcare industry.
Robotic surgery is the process of using robots to perform medical procedures on a human being. Remote surgery or telesurgery is a kind of robotic surgery, which is the process of operating on a patient without the physical presence of a medical specialist. This method combines the amazing technology of robotics and cutting edge communication tools such as the Internet. The role of the physician is to control the robotics in the place where the patient is. This method continues to receive global recognition, as it allows specialised surgeons to reach out to their patients anywhere they are in the world.
Another type of robotics surgery is the minimally invasive technique. As the term suggests, it is a surgical or non-surgical procedure that involves lesser punctures or incisions on a person's body, making it different from open surgery. With this method, physicians typically use laparoscopic devices (medical instruments that consist of a tube that is inserted through the abdominal wall and come with a tiny light to allow the surgeon to see the patient's internal organs), which are passed out through the skin, body cavity, or anatomical opening like the mouth. This robotics surgery method is done when removing masses inside the skin, as it leaves minimal scarring and takes less recovery time. In the past, surgeons had to cut through about 3/4 of a person's skin to perform an operation. Now, only about 1/10 is penetrated using the amazing technology of robotics surgery.
